Jim was an wonderful aviation mate of mine. We served in Vietnam with A Battery, 2nd Battalion, 20th Artillery (ARA). We had many experiences during that time and Jim was a real go-getter. It is hard for me to really explain what we all shared, but it gives me many good thoughts of our time together. Jim is remembered by all of his fellow soldiers. Rest in peace Jim, you deserve it.

Jim was a good friend and a true team player. I served with him in Vietnam where we were both pilots in the 2nd battalion 20th Artillery (ARA) 1st Cavalry Division. He served admirably during our tour. I remember many wonderful days during that tour. Rebecca was my daughters teacher when Jim and I were stationed at Ft. Wolters, Texas. I have not forgotten Jim and will always remember him with fondness.

I worked with Jim for the past 10 years. He conducted many searches for me and always brought top-notch candidates who were closely matched with the requirements. I came to trust Jim to understand the professional needs, and we became friends (even though we never met in person!). Jim is the embodiment of what his profession is all about - respect, caring, dependability, diligence, understanding, perseverance. It is evident from these postings that he touched so many lives with his kindness. He will surely be missed. My deepest sympathies go out to Jim's family, friends, and MRI colleagues.

As I recall, Jim was my replacement in ARA in 1966. I remember the nights we pulled strip alert and told many stories about our backgrounds, families, and beliefs. One night we used the tumleweeds of the deserts to explained our concept of the Holy Trinity. Jim was a gifted officer with a sense of humor and the ability to stay centered and focused. I knew when I left An Khe for my next assignment at West Point that my portion of ARA was left in capable hands. I had a few moments to talk with Jim at our reunion at Fort Rucker this year. Jim was a man of God with a strong faith in his future. I know that his walk on this earth has touched many people in many different ways. Let us all continue on our journeys aware of those around us and pass on the love that Jim had for those of us around him.

Rebecca, may God continue to blessed you and your family with the peace that passes all human understanding.

We met Jim and Rebecca in 1972 in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan. We had a lot in common as our son, Chris, and Julie were the same age, we went to the same church, and lived in the same neighborhood, thus beginning a lasting friendship that began those many years ago.
After we all moved to Texas, Ralph and I always looked forward to our visits in San Antonio because we knew Jim would cook one of his "fancy" meals with those wonderful margaritas he made ,and also a new wine he had discovered. We would stay up late discussung the news, politics, the military, and the progress of San Antonio. On many occassions, Jim talked with our sons and shared his knowledge with them and encouraged them in their careers.
Jim was fun, loyal, and caring to his friends and family. Jim walked fast, talked fast, and worked hard and we were proud to call him a "Texan". Jim was a dear friend and we will sorely miss him.
Rebecca, Julile and Jame Andrew, we will keep you in our prayers.

I was one of the lucky ones that served with Jim with the ARA. For those of us that were together under extraordinary conditions, a bond was made that we will always remember.

Jim was caring and provided some sanity to those trying times. I flew with him the day that he earned his DFC. It was a pleasure. He also wrote me up for my DFC.

I feel so lucky that I got to spend some time with him at our recent reunion at Fort Rucker. He made a special effort to be there and I know we all appreciated him for his courage, his humor, and his dignity.

My blessing to his lovely wife and family. He will always be part of our ARA family.

I was very shocked by the news of Jim's passing. My memories of Jim go back to 1965 at Ft. Wolters, TX and run through service with him in the 2nd of the 20th ARA in Vietnam. Rest in Peace my friend!

I also had the honor of serving with Jim in Vietnam. It was an interesting time for all of us. However, the closeness we felt as comrades in arms will always remain a part of my life. Jim was (and still is in my mind) a good soldier and a trustworthy Wingman. Those of us that shared this time with Jim will forever remember his friendship and the exceptional manner of his service. Thanks Jim for being a part of my life and I'll see you in the LZ sometime in the future. Have the chili con queso ready for our party.

An open letter to the family and friends of Jim Cornfoot,

I was saddened when I received the call from Lori Smith that Jim had passed away on Father's Day.

He was a great person to talk to and he really knew his stuff in his vocation.

I had no idea of the breadth and scope of his military service until I read this, but truly he was a proud American who served his country when it needed him.

The world is a better place, and we are all better people because Jim was in our lives.

My sympathies, condolences, and prayers are with you all.

Jim has not only been my boss for the past 13 years, he was also my mentor, friend, and like a second father to me. I learned everything I know about MR because of him and am very lucky to be taught by the best. I also learned so much from about the military, history and world events, and cooking. I could ask him anything and he always had time to listen and gave great advice. My life will never be the same without him but it is certainly better. Rebecca, Julie, Jimmy, Keith, Ashley and Courtney, you will always be family to me.

Jim was a fun loving person who was always interesting to talk with. My wife and I met Jim through his daughter who lived next door to us in Plano Texas. We always had a good time when he was around us (he loved to kid around). He was a great father who raised his children to be fun-loving and responsible adults. Jim was a great friend who will be sorely missed by us all.

I am deeply saddened to learn of Jim's passing. We were West Point Classmates, then Lts together in the Detroit Air Defense Group; and he was in my wedding in August of 1964.

I have known Jim for close to 30 years, being part of the MRI Southwest region. Jim always seemed to be the "go to" guy, he served our region as regional rep for many years and did a great job at representing all of us in the region. He was a guy that was a friend to everyone, he always had to time to chat and always seemed interested in what you had to say. He didn't have a big ego even though he accomplished much and reached high ranks in both MRI and in his military career, he was a humble man. He was respected by his peers in the business and is considered a true friend.
We will all miss him dearly.
May the Lord take Jim up to that heavenly place where there is peace and love.
Our prayers are with Rebecca and family. We share your grief and trust in the Lord to bring you through this sorrowful time.

My deepest sympathy to the Cornfoot Family.
I worked for Jim as his Secretary/Receptionist in the earlier days at Management Recruiters when we still used typewriters. It was quite the quest working for such a man of perfection. He taught me much. He will be missed.

I had the pleasure of learning about the world of recruiting from Jim and spent 7 years working for him at Management Recruiters of San Antonio. Jim was always firm but fair with anybody that was in his charge. Many evenings Jim and I would be the last two left in the office and would share stories with one another of tougher times which were now “the good old days”. Jim’s detailed recollections of flying helicopters in Vietnam would keep me entertained well after the dinner hour.

Jim was dedicated to his work and his family and will be missed by all who knew him. My prayers are with Rebecca, Julie and Jimmy.

Gates and I grieve with the Cornfoot
Family in the loss of Jim. Jim will
be a loss to me personally because
his office is where I was first introduced to the search business and to the great MRI organization. Jim will be deeply missed by MRI,
especially the Southwest Region, for
all the contributions he made to this
organization. Jim was a walking history book of this company. He
worked on the planning of so many
regional meetings, we probably couldn't count them -- even this
past meeting. When he was asked
to handle the planning, you could
count on everything be done and being done well. We'll all miss
his input. In business, Jim taught
me the value of planning and
record-keeping and the importance
of ratios. Jim was a fabulous
gourmet cook, a loyal friend, and
most of all, he was a family man
and a patriot. You couldn't meet
Jim and not know the value that
he placed on family, friends, and
country.

May God bless all of you with a
peace that passeth all understanding
knowing that our loss is heaven's gain.

Love and Blessings,

Linda and Gates Copeland

Anita and I were associated with JIm and Becky for more than 30 years. The army should have taught him not to volunteer, but it didn't. He volunteered for all and sundry duties and was relentless in their execution. We will miss him.

Honesty, Intergrety and Duty were the things I remember most about Jim. Our paths first crossed many years ago as Jim contacted me about a position he wanted me to consider. We became friends these past 20 years and I always knew a friend stood beside me as we passed through life. Jim will be greatly missed by his freinds, associates and most of all, his family.

Ann and I wish to extend our heartfelt sympathy to the Cornfoot family. For more than 30 years we have enjoyed their friendship.
All of us in the southwest region of the MRINetwork will miss Jim in a big way. His dedicated service to ensure the success of the regional conferences and the success of the offices are beyond compare. Jim was instrumental in the introduction of the awards banquet and the importance of the recognition of his
peers. As of recent he served the MRINetwork meetings committee.
I count Jim as one of the true good friends in MRI. The many trips, the many meetings and the many laughters I will miss. When Jim recently told me about his illness I started to think about the many years together. He and Bob Lineback and I were the three stooges of the region, and Jim was the one with the big scooper and the broom, always cleaning things up after Bob and I. How special to have been part of that.
To Rebecca, Ann and I pray for strength, and may God bless all the Cornfoot family.

I believe it only fitting that I write this first entry in Jim's Guest Book. Jim was my boss, my trainer, my mentor, my leader, my business partner and co-owner of Management Recruiters of San Antonio. But most of all he was my best friend for over 21 years. He challenged me, gave me direction to find what I wanted in a career and then taught me the tools to do just that. He heard my dreams and helped me achieve them. Jim touched hundreds of lives each year because of the executive search business we were in. He loved the business. Together we failed at some ventures, but more often we achieved goals that thrilled us. Jim passionately cared about teaching our profession to those people who wanted to become successful in it. Jim's heart was as big as Texas in stepping in to help so many people. I was blessed in my life to be his associate. Rebecca, Julie, Jimmy, Keith, Ashley and Courtney, he loved all of you. Julie and Jimmy, he was so very, very proud of you as children and even more so as the adults you have become. You have a great example from him in how to be a parent. I know you will grieve. Losing a parent is as if you lost part of yourselves. You will be in my daily prayers as you continue on with your lives. We will all have great memories of Jim. His passion for building things, passion for travel, passion for the country he served, and passion for success in all he did was and is something we can all continue to look up to. Rebecca, Jimmy and I will never forget, as I'm sure you won't, our first trip to Acapulco and "the Thing" he rented to drive us around. The best time of my life. God bless you, God comfort you, God put His arms around you, and God give you peace that his soul is in heaven.
