Lt. Michael Scott "Scotty" Lamana

Michael Lamana Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 17, 2001.
Mike and Wendy Lamana left Baton Rouge less than 12 hours after American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon Tuesday. They were driving to where their son, Michael Scott "Scotty" Lamana, had surely died, though there was no body.

Lamana, 31, was a U.S. Navy lieutenant who worked in the Pentagon. He had been a 1992 graduate of Louisiana State University and then joined the military.

By Tuesday afternoon, as the Pentagon remained engulfed in flames and rescue workers publicly admitted that no survivors seemed likely to be found, Lamana's parents hopped in their car, bound for Washington D.C., according to relative Ronnie Chatelain.

They were sure their son hadn't survived, Chatelain said, because authorities had told them he was unaccounted for, and they knew Lamana would call to reassure them if he could.

I learned about you when my mom said "I taught Scotty!" A few weeks ago, I was vacationing in Dallas and visited "W"s Library and at first I couldn't walk into the memorial area for 9/11. I could hear President Bush's words as soon as I got into that part of the museum. When I could finally step into that section, I got very overwhelmed. When I stopped crying, I called my mom (Mrs. Bozzelle) and said "I'm here at Pres. Bush's Library...what was the name of the student you taught?? She told me his name and I found it. It was near the floor so I sat. I was there on the floor for 30 minutes. The worker said, stay as long as you like. I never met Scotty or anything but I just sat and ended up crying more. I am sorry for your loss and I would give you big hugs if I could. God bless y'all. Andrea Bozzelle Gonzales

There are still no words after 20 years that can ease your pain. Losing a child must be difficult no matter what the circumstances.
Thank you for your condolences during my grieving time. It doesn´t get easier either. God be with you and yours.

Found a 9/11 trackable in Atlanta, Georgia and it's mission was to travel to places connected to the 9/11 victims. I brought the trackable back to Louisiana and dropped in off at the LSU University Lakes in remembrance of Lt. Michael Scott Lamana. We Shall Never Forget.

I added Mr. Lamana to the navy.togetherweserved.com website. I hope the information is correct. I was looking for something I could do for him besides leave a sad note. We served together in VP-9. I remember meeting him and introducing himself to me as 'Scott' when we were volunteering to renovate Makaha Elementary School in Hawaii. Officers rarely introduce themselves by first name when meeting Enlisted. That was 12 years ago, I never forgot that.

To the Lamana Family,

I met Scott in the MBA Program at the University of Maryland. He impressed not only with his judgment, knowledge, and poise, but also with his zest for life and consideration of others. He was well respected and admired by both peers and professors. I got to know Scott outside the classroom on an MBA trip to Israel. He was a true gentleman and his love of life and living was contagious. Lorna, on that overseas trip he spoke of you often, and always with a sparkle in his eye. His love for you was palpable.

May God be with you all. Scott may you rest in peace friend.

Michael Scott Lamana was a beautiful person with a great heart! LT Lamana was my boss when he worked for the Command Services Division in VP-9. He was also my husband's boss at one point, in the aviation electrician shop. I feel truely blessed to have known him. He was a great man. I know you have suffered a horrible loss. Lt. I worked with LT Lamana from the time he arrived in the Pentagon until my departure in August 2000. He always had a way of looking at things from a most unique angle. He and the other LTs who made up their little "think tank" managed to provide the Navy Command Center with its own sense of humor. He had good sound advice when asked and thorougly enjoyed showing off his family whenever they came by. He'll be missed greatly. God bless him and his family.

We thank Scotty for devoting his life to help protect America in the military. Such devotion comes with a brave, warm and caring heart. We are deeply sorry for your great loss of Scotty. May warm memories of times shared with Scotty lighten the sorrow in your hearts. Our hearts cry with you

America Cries

We see your sorrow-

and our hearts cry....

We can not erase your pain

but you do not have to face the anguish alone-for we-

-the American people-

are beside you.

We so desperately want to have the touch that brings you comfort,

the strength that gives you courage,

and the words to lighten your spirits.

And when we are left speechless

may the silence of our nation weave love into your hearts

to ease your sorrow.

May you find healing through our nation's strength as we-

-the American people-

face this difficult time together. Our hearts are with you. Teresa Jahn
