Haircuts at Disney World
The MacFarlanes of Revere, Mass., did everything together. They lived side by side in two houses built by their Irish immigrant ancestors after the Civil War. Marianne MacFarlane, 34, the middle child and only girl, was a customer service representative for United Airlines at Logan Airport. She lived with her mother, Anne, also a customer service representative in the same terminal at Logan.

Marianne MacFarlane's brother, George, his wife, her children, and George's brother, Joseph, lived next door. Except for the children, they all worked at Logan Airport at one time or another.

The MacFarlanes took advantage of the free flights that are offered to airline employees to travel together. Marianne MacFarlane — tall, blond, vivacious — and her mother flew to Disney World just to get their hair cut by a hairdresser at the Contemporary Resort Hotel.

On Sept. 11, Ms. MacFarlane was traveling alone on United Flight 175, headed for the West Coast for a vacation.

Not sure what to say?

Marianne, I can still see you hangin at the end of the counter at commuters. You were just getting off duty and you had your smile goin. And now it brings a smile to my face every time I think of you. (Which is often). Know you are loved and missed terribly and will never be forgotten. R.I.P.

Miss you my friend. Thank you for guiding me to you when I came to NYC. I had no idea where your name was. And yet I walked right to you as if I had been there many times. Love you! GIve mom and dad a hug for me.

We think of you often last year I took my kids to Disney and my son and I rode splash mountain back to back and I thought of how much fun we had just a few short weeks before 9/11 when we went to Disney together. I also just spoke of the time when you said ‘my friends and family won’t believe that I took you to Disney and the first ride you made me go on was the carousel’ miss you friend!

Marianne , today marks 22 years since that tragic day ~ we will always remember ❤

I miss you my friend.

Hard to believe it’s been 20 years ~ such a difficult day for your family along with your airline family .. keep watch ol girl ~ you are truly missed ..

20 years, and it seems like yesterday. Marianne, I have thought of you so often over the years, random things. I have honored your spirit over the years and try to do random acts of kindness in memory of you. I am sure that your family misses you tremendously, and my heart breaks for them. I hope that your family finds comfort in how many lives you have touched in your brief time in this world, you certainly left a lasting impression on mine! I will never ever forget.

She’s never forgotten, forever missed.

20th anniversary. RIP Marianne! Even though we weren’t close in High school, I think of you.
