Dianne Snyder Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 13, 2001.
Dianne (Bullis) Snyder, 42, of Westport, MA, died Tuesday, (September 11, 2001) in Manhattan, NY, while serving as a flight attendant on American Airlines Flight 11. She is survived by her husband, John Snyder; a son, Leland Snyder; and daughter, Blakeslee Snyder of Westport, MA; mother, Marilyn Bullis, father, Donald Bullis of Madison; sister, Elizabeth (Bullis) Wiese of Fairfield; a brother, John Bullis of Essex; and brother, Bradley Bullis of Essex. Dianne was a 1977 graduate of Daniel Hand High School in Madison, a graduate of Becker Junior College and Boston University. She was flight attendant for American Airlines for 19 years, 17 of which were based in New York, the last two in Boston. A long time resident of Madison and a two year resident of Westport, MA. Dianne was a loving mother and the best chocolate chip cookie maker. She was an avid tennis player, a Dartmouth Indoor Tennis Club team member and past club champion. She organized tennis groups both in Connecticut and Massachusetts. Gardening was her latest hobby and she nurtured several masterpieces. Her handmade quilts adorn many family and friends' homes. Her close friends know her as an avid "hiker" and "camper". She will best be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, sister, daughter, and friend. We will miss you. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 22, 10:30 a.m., St. Andrew's Episcopal Church, Durham Road, Rt. 79, Madison. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Dianne Bullis Synder Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Fleet Bank, 610 State Road, P.O. Box 296, Westport, MA 02790.

How strange to know we have walked the same sandy shores, the same winding roads but to never have known each other at all. Madison is a beautiful place to grow up. I know you are resting peacefully within the Lord's arms now.

When I heard the terrible events that day I felt a strange connection to it all, although i was in a town in Hampshire,UK. It was many years later that I found out that I shared the name of someone on the flight. I was to lose my sister only 18 days later. I often think about Dianne although I did not know her. I know only too well that you do not ever recover from your loss you just somehow carry on best you can.

Dear Snyder and Bullis Family-
Every time I hear the mention of 9/11 my first thought is of Dianne. Ten years have gone by and I will always remember Diane as a sweet, beautiful person!! I was good friends with her cousin Lisa Coleman. Every time Lisa came into town, which usually was to attend one of our HS reunions, I would get to see, and visit with Dianne!! Dianne was always responsible for lending Lisa's something to wear to the reunions. She would always make sure Lisa looked fabulous!!! That's the kind of person she was!!
I pray that Dianne is resting in the arms of the Lord....I pray that the Lord continues to give her family and friends strength, especially at this time marking the 10th anniversary of this tragic time in American history and all your lives!!
Please accept my deepest sympathy, and know that Dianne and her family will always be in my thoughts and prayers!
God Bless!!

my brother, john and i only learned dianne had met such tragic misfortune this week. we wish to extend our condolences belated as they may be. i remember my daughters' ( then in 2nd and 5th grade) bewilderment at how someone could do this to so many people's moms and dads. we had rented roberto begnini's "life is beautiful" just days beforehand..my kids were imploring me to explain the question we all had that day. why?? i told them it was the same evil as in the movie, just different people. as young as they were they understood immediately. I'm so sorry your entire family and dear friends have had to endure such a painful loss. I remember those far more innocent times we all grew up in in Madison fondly. Dianne was a sweet girl who never hurt anyone. John, you two were such a cute high school couple. I have no doubt you had carved out a lovely life together. John B, I remember you and my brother having fun going to basketball games, etc.

I was remembering especially today, May 2, 2011 about 9/11 and I was thinking about Diane. I had remembered we went to Daniel Hand HS~ she dated my brother for a while and she was a few years younger than me. I found out years later about Diane and 9/11. Also, I found an old picture of our mothers at a restaurant, maybe the early 50's. My cousin, who is much older, pointed out Diane's mother sitting with my mother, who was Betty Nilsen Brennan. I grew up in Madison and my thoughts are with Diane's family.
