John Fay Obituary

Whitman John J. Fay, 87, formerly of Abington, passed away Friday, April 4, in Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital following a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of 49 years to Jeanne M. (Gardner) Fay. Born in Rockland and raised in North Abington, he was a son of the late John and Laura (McGrath) Fay and a graduate of Abington High School, Class of 1939. John was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II, having served from 1942-1945. He was a member of the 44th Combat Engineers and served overseas in Germany, England and France. He worked as a machinist for American Sandpaper and retired in 1986. He was an avid reader and enjoyed boating and the ocean. In addition to his wife of 49 years, he is survived by his sister, Doris Fay-Boyce of Rockland; his sister-in-law, Dorothy Sime of Kingston; his niece, Judy Sime of Kingston; and his nephew, Brian Sime of Pembroke. John was also the longtime friend of the MacAlpine family of New Hampshire and Special Uncle to Mary and Amanda Mastrangelo of Abington. His funeral service will be held Tuesday, April 8, at 11 a.m. in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 at the rotary), Whitman. Burial will follow in the Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Visiting hours will be held Monday, April 7, from 4-7 p.m. Donations in his name may be made to the Partners Home Care, 281 Winter St., Suite 240, Waltham, MA 02451-8713.
