Christiana Reordan Obituary

Bridgewater Christiana Reordan, died peacefully in St. Petersburg, Fla., April 1, having recently turned 90 years of age. Having called many places home, she settled in Bridgewater and for over 20 years, raised a family and taught German and Russian at Bridgewater State College. During this time, she traveled extensively with her family also taking her Russian language students to the Soviet Union for an experience of a lifetime. Many did not know the depth of her courage and resourcefulness which carried her through World War II during which she survived the bombings of Berlin and Dresden. Fleeing the destruction of the war, she made her way to Lenggries, a small village in Southern Bavaria, south of Munich. Here she found a second family and worked as a translator for the town mayor. Her courage and tenacity were again tested as she walked a fine line serving as the bridge between the people of Lenggries and the German, Russian and American militaries operating in and around the area. It was in this job that she met her future husband Robert, later joining him in New York, marrying on the 4th of July, 1948. Upon retiring, she moved with Robert to St. Petersburg, Fla. From there they traveled the world extensively together. On Robertss death, in 1993, she continued her travels visiting many unique places while at the same time keeping her German roots alive. Christiana is survived by her two sons, Christopher and Kevin, and she will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
