Aquinel Duarte Obituary

East Bridgewater Aquinel L. Duarte, a 40-year resident of East Bridgewater, died June 11, 2008, at the Sachem Nursing Home in East Bridgewater. He was 89. Born in Taunton, a son of the late Frank L. and Maria (Balla) Duarte, he was raised in Portugal. He served with the U.S. Army during World War II. After the war, he was a Merchant Marine for over 25 years. He worked for Boston Tow Boat as a chef, retiring in at the age of 62. He also worked as a chef at Vinn & Eddie's in Weymouth, Morey Pearls in Quincy and A.R. Parkers in East Bridgewater. He enjoyed fishing, vegetable gardens and animals and was a past member of the Lion's Club. He was the husband of 62 years of Rita (Fratus); father of David Duarte of Unity, Maine, and Jean McLaren and Judy Whynock, both of Bridgewater; brother of Adelino Duarte and Anita Amador of Dorchester, Albert of Braintree and the late Armando. Also survived by six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. A funeral service will be held Monday in the Wales-Prophett Funeral Home, 35 Spring St., East Bridgewater, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Furnace Village Cemetery, Easton. Visiting hours are Sunday from 4-7 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Sachem Nursing & Rehab. Center, 66 Central St., East Bridgewater, MA 02333.
