Myrna Smith Obituary

Middleboro Myrna M. (Shirley) Smith, age 86 years, of Middleboro, died Saturday, June 21, 2008, at Island Terrace Nursing Home, Lakeville. She was the wife of Richard M. Smith. They had been married for 61 years. She had been a resident of Middleboro for the past 50 years. She was born in Nova Scotia, daughter of the late Edgar and Una (Freeman) Shirley. She had worked as a secretary for the John Hancock Insurance Company. She was a member of the North Congregational Church of Middleboro. She enjoyed square, round and ballroom dancing. She was a member of the Middleboro Council on Aging. Her hobbies included sewing, knitting and crossword puzzles. She will be warmheartedly remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Survivors include her husband; two sons, Robert R. Smith of Lakeville and Richard M. Smith of Arlington; three daughters, Susan S. Burns of E. Dennis, Sandra L. Russell of Hyde Park, N.Y. and Shirley S. Wood of Middleboro; one sister, Geraldine Boly of West Roxbury; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. She was mother of the late William M. Smith. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 25, in the Egger Funeral Home, 61 Pearl St., Middleboro, at 10 a.m., with Rev. Dr. Patricia Kogut officiating. Visiting hours, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend, will be held Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. only. Burial will take place at Central Cemetery.
