Paul Scopa Obituary

Bridgewater Paul A. Scopa, a resident of Bridgewater for 51 years, died unexpectedly at Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital Tuesday. He was 81. Born and raised in East Boston, a son of the late James and Josephine Scopa, he was a graduate of East Boston High School. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II aboard the USS Everett Larson. He was a member of the Bricklayers and Mason Union Local 3 of Boston, where he worked for 40 years, retiring as foreman and superintendent. He was recognized by the International Bricklayers and Mason Union for his work on Back Bay Station. He was a member and past Grand Knight of the Bridgewater Knights of Columbus and the Bridgewater Veteran's Club. Paul also played semi-pro hockey and coached youth hockey on the South Shore. He was an avid runner and walker in his later years and ran numerous marathons, including the Boston Marathon three times. He was the husband of 58 years of Louise (Starr); father of Paul and his wife Ellen and James Scopa, all of Bridgewater, and Leslie Scopa-Braunstein and her husband Donnie of Sharon; brother of Anthony of Dudley, Lucille Limone and her husband Richard of Winthrop and the late Mary Feeley and her husband Patrick; grandfather of Tara, Stephen, Cory and Jamie. Funeral from the Prophett Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St. (Rte. 18), Bridgewater, Friday at 9:45 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass in St. Thomas Aquinas Church, Bridgewater, at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Visiting hours are Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1115 West Chestnut St., Brockton, MA 02301.

Mr. Scopa,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the USN during WW II as a "Tin Can Sailor" aboard the destroyer USS Everett Larson(DD-830) and also for supporting our Marines in North China after the War as well.
