Josephine King Obituary

Stoughton Josephine F. Jo (Anastasi) King, an accomplished painter and artist, died Friday, July 4, at the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton. She was the wife of the late Martin E. King. Born in Boston, she was raised in South Boston and was a graduate of South Boston schools. She also was a graduate of Burdett College. Mrs. King was a resident of Stoughton for over 43 years. She worked at the Gibbons School in Stoughton for over 16 years, retiring in 1989. After her retirement, Mrs. King concentrated on her painting. She was noted for her work in oils and scenes of New England, Cape Cod and the Islands. She was a member of both the Stoughton and Canton Art Associations and had an art studio at the Felos Art Gallery in Stoughton for many years. In her free time, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by her children, Dennis M. King of Maryland, Janice K. Garrigan of Stoughton and Robert M. King of California. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Martin J. King and her siblings, John Anastasi and Rose Lavoie. She is also survived by her eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Funeral will be held from the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rte. 27), Stoughton, Tuesday, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. James Church, Stoughton, at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Monday, 4-8 p.m. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, Stoughton. Donations in Jos memory may be made to the Jo King Art Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 93, Stoughton, MA 02072.
