Francis Gaffney Obituary

Stoughton Francis J. Lefty Gaffney, 74, a longtime resident of Stoughton, died unexpectedly at his home, Wednesday, July 2. Born in Boston, he was raised in Roxbury and attended Boston Schools. Mr. Gaffney was a resident of Stoughton since 1962. He worked as a plumber for the Stoughton School System for many years, retiring in 1996. Mr. Gaffney also worked as a security guard at Jet-Line in Stoughton for several years. He was an avid hockey fan and fan of Stoughton High School hockey. In his free time, he enjoyed roller skating, wood carving, reading and dining at Friendlys. He also enjoyed Native American history. Mr. Gaffney is survived by his beloved children, John F. Jack Gaffney of Cumberland, R.I., Jill M. Forman of Florida, Patricia L. DeCosta and Susan J. Gaffney, both of New Hampshire, Christine Murphy of Norton, Michael E. Gaffney of Colorado, Robert G. Gaffney of Easton and Joseph F. Gaffney of Stoughton. He was the brother of Rita Hughes of Franklin and the former husband of Jeanne (Hemphill) Gaffney of Florida. He is also survived by his 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and his aunt, Kay. Funeral prayers will be offered in the Farley Funeral Home, 358 Park St. (Rte. 27), Stoughton, Thursday, at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Wednesday, 5-8 p.m. Donations in Franks name may be made to Epilepsy Foundation, 8301 Professional Place, East Landover, MD 20785.
