John Smedile Obituary

West Bridgewater John S. Smedile, 59, died after a brief illness, Monday, July 7, in the Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center. Born in Boston, he was a son of the late Charles and Edith (Clark) Smedile. He was raised in Braintree and was a graduate of Braintree High School. He served in the U. S. Marine Corp Reserves. John worked for Verizon for 33 years and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. He has been a resident of West Bridgewater for the last 10 years. He is survived by his brother, Charles Smedile Jr. of Whitman; his sisters, Miriam Gannon of Braintree, Mary Claire Smedile and Judith Lewis both of Whitman and Susan Berry of North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews. His services will be held Friday, July 11, at 8:15 a.m. from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 at the rotary), Whitman, followed by a mass at 9 a.m. in St. Bridget Church, Abington. Visiting hours will be held Thursday, July 10, from 5-8 p.m. For online condolences and directions, www.blanchardfc.com.

I worked with John at Verizon many years ago, but I will always remember what a gentleman he was. He was very quiet, but so polite and always willing to help out. I retired many years ago, but I was saddened to read of his passing. My prayers are with his family.
