West Bridgewater George E. McGuire, 97, a resident of West Bridgewater for 40 years, died Saturday afternoon, at Life Care Center of West Bridgewater, after a period of failing health. He was the husband of Louisa (MacDonald) McGuire for the past 73 years. Born in Brockton, June 9, 1911, a son of the late George F. and Josephine (Partridge) McGuire, he was raised and educated in Brockton. He began working during World War II at the Fore River Shipyards in Quincy. He later worked as a salesman for Athertons in Brockton for many years. His working career also include him owning an oil burner repair business. He retired as a truck driver from M.B. Claff & Sons of Brockton. George was an avid candlepin bowler and when unable to bowl himself, would follow the matches on television. He was a lifelong Red Sox fan, a member of the Teamsters Local 653 in Brockton and enjoyed carpentry work as a hobby. George was one of the first volunteers at the West Bridgewater Council on Aging, transporting senior to their appointments and delivering meals to the home bound He was profiled in the Jan 90 newsletter as a very dear friend and advocate. A friend who is always there when needed." In addition to his wife whom he married Sept. 21, 1934, he is survived by four children, Ronald E. McGuire of Charlestown, James D. McGuire of West Bridgewater, Linda C. Gillis of Westbrook, Maine and Michael R. McGuire of Bridgewater; seven grandchildren, Theresa J. Gillis of Turner, Maine, Kathleen R. Dobecki of Scarborough, Maine, Timothy J. Gillis of Buxton, Maine, Colleen M.C. Pereira of Kittery, Maine, Elizabeth Jackson of Taunton, Julianne McGuire of Bridgewater and Jeffrey McGuire of Bridgewater; 13 great-grandchildren; a niece and a nephew. He was also the brother of the late William McGuire. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral, Wednesday, at 10 a.m. from the Kane Funeral Home, 605 Washington St. (Rte.138), Easton, followed by a funeral Mass in the Holy Cross Church, Easton, at noon.
