Esther MacKenzie Obituary

Plymouth Esther M. MacKenzie, 93, formerly of Hanson, died Thursday, July 31, after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Kenneth MacKenzie, retired chief of police in Hanson. Born and rais-ed in Duxbury, she was a daughter of the late Earl and Bernice (Randall) Jones and a graduate of Duxbury High School. She worked as a bookkeeper for Caspers in Plymouth for many years. She had been a resident of Hanson for more than 60 years and was a member of the Friends of the Congregational Church of Hanson and honorary member of the Maid & Matrons. Esther, along with her husband, spent many hours volunteering at the Plymouth County Hospital in Hanson. She is survived by her sons, Robert MacKenzie of Weymouth and Richard MacKenzie and his wife Maureen of Hanson; her grandchildren, Jamie MacKenzie-Edgerly of Whitman and Linsey MacKenzie-Brown of Hanson; her great-grandsons, Cale and Brent Edgerly; and her nephew, Arthur Bennett Jr. She was the sister of the late Ruth Bennett. Family and friends are invited to share in a graveside service to be held Friday, Aug. 8, at 10 a.m. in the Fern Hill Cemetery, High Street, Hanson.
