John Fogarty Obituary

Bridgewater John M. Fogarty, 76 years, of Bridgewater, formerly of Easton and Brockton, died Thursday, Aug. 7, 2008, at Caritas Good Samaritan Medical Center, after a period of failing health. He was the devoted husband for 51 years of Antonetta (Procaccini) Fogarty. Born and raised in Brockton, he was a son of the late Michael J. and Bridget (Kearney) Fogarty and was a 1949 graduate of Brockton High School. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and began a 20-year career that included service during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a B52 pilot with the Strategic Air Command and flew many missions over Vietnam and retired in 1970 with the rank of major. Following his discharge, he had also worked for many years as a systems analyst for Decatur Hopkins. Mr. Fogarty was an avid golfer and a member of D.W. Field Golf Course. He also enjoyed reading, working on his computer, and most importantly, time spent with his family and friends. He had been a member of VFW Post 1046 and the Bertocci Club, both in Brockton. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Kathleen M. Samaras and her husband Thomas of Brockton and Patricia A. Riley and her husband Joe of Middleboro; two grandsons, Thomas Samaras Jr. and Christopher M. Samaras; a sister, Margaret Sheehan and her husband Robert of Brockton; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123), Brockton, Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10:30 a.m. Burial with military honors in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, at 12:30 p.m. Visiting hours Monday 5-8 p.m. Donations in Johns name may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 11 Vanderbilt Ave., Norwood, MA 02062.
