Chester Goucher Obituary

West Bridgewater Chester L. Goucher, 82, of West Bridgewater, died peacefully, Aug. 10, at Baypointe in Brockton. Born in Whitman, son of the late Edward and Lillian (Peterson) Goucher, he was educated there and in Nova Scotia and graduated from Quincy Trade School and Old Colony Trade School in Brockton. He served in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during World War II. He was a plumber by trade for Deacon Plumbing in Stoughton and McLean Hospital in Belmont and retired after 20 years from Cardinal Cushing General Hospital. He was a member of First Church in West Bridgewater, Northeast Fiddlers Association and Maritime Fiddle Association and a former Scoutmaster in West Bridgewater. He enjoyed playing the fiddle, squaredancing, hunting, fishing, camping, leather work, chair caning and tapping maple syrup. He was the beloved husband of Muriel (Ryder) for 57 years; loving father of William (and his wife Debra) of Brockton, Karen Piazza (and her husband Joseph) of Quincy and Charles (and his wife Amy) of West Bridgewater; dear grandfather of Kyle and Corey Piazza, Robert, Andrew "A.J." and Matthew Goucher; brother of Robert of New York and the late June Pierce and Stanley Goucher. All are welcome to calling hours Wednesday 4-8 p.m. in Waitt Funeral Home, 850 North Main St., Brockton, funeral Thursday at 11 a.m. in First Church, 29 Howard St., West Bridgewater, with the Rev. Carol Ashton officiating, cremation and private burial. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to First Church, 29 Howard St., West Bridgewater, MA 02379. We are saddened to hear of Chet`s passing. He taught us alot through his willingness to share.
We will miss our winter morning coffee around the woodstove,stories and his looking into our maple evaporator pan saying, "Boy,that smells good " !
