Norma Andrews Obituary

Whitman Norma Louise Andrews, 92, a former resident of Whitman, passed away peacefully, in Loma Linda Hospital in California, June 9, 2008. She was born in Lynn, Aug. 14, 1915, and moved to Whitman in 1918. She graduated from Whitman High School in 1933 and Bryant & Stratton Secretarial School in Boston. She was employed with the Internal Revenue Service in Boston and retired after 30 years of service. After her retirement, she moved to Garden Grove, Calif., and lived near her nephew, Jerry Andrews. We enjoyed hearing about her travels; she had visited 48 states, including Hawaii, and thoroughly enjoyed her retirement. She was a member of the Whitman Congregational Church and sang in the junior and senior choirs. She will always be remembered for her loyal and dedicated love for her family and especially for her two nephews, Jerry and the late Dean Andrews, who both suffered from the Polio epidemic of 1955, and spent many hours with them at the two hospitals and many more hours upon their return home and school. She will be remembered for how much she loved family get-togethers with "all the goodies" and always said, "I'll never miss a meal." She was always known as "Aunt Norma" to her nephews, Jared Andrews Sr. of Redlands, Calif., and Christian Andrews of Pacific Palisades, Calif.; and her nieces, Pamela Barnes of Harwich and Jane Benttinen of Centerville. She leaves 11 great-nieces and great-nephews; as well as six great great-nieces and great great-nephews. She is survived by her brother, L. Alden Andrews and his wife Edith of West Yarmouth; and was predeceased by her niece, Bette, and nephew, Dean Andrews. Memorial services were held at her former residence of 16 years, The Terrace, Grand Terrace, Calif., June 21, and separate service at her church, Immanuel Baptist Temple, Riverside, Calif., June 22, 2008. Burial services will be held at the Colebrook Cemetery in Whitman at a later date.
