Ruth Baptiste Obituary

Middleboro Ruth Grant (Hadfield) Baptiste, age 84 years, of Middleboro, formerly of Lakeville, died Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2008, at Nemasket Health Care Center, Middleboro, after a period of failing health. She was the wife of the late Manuel Andrew Baptiste, who predeceased her in 1989. Born in Pawtucket, R.I., Oct. 19, 1923, she was a daughter of the late Rena Mae Grant. She was a graduate of Bates High School, Middleboro. She had volunteered for several years at the Middleboro Senior Citizens and was an avid bingo player and will be warm-heartedly remembered as a devoted mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. Survivors include one son, Bruce and his wife Joanne Baptiste of Lakeville; one daughter, Terry and her husband Jack Elliot of Middleboro; two sisters, Mildred and her husband Thomas Harbin of Alma, Alaska, Marilyn and her husband Roland Thompson of Fort Myers, Fla.; three grandchildren, Jennifer Baptiste of Boston, Joshua Baptiste of New York, Jasen and his wife Lisa Nunes of Middleboro; two great-grandchildren, Jasen and Tyler Nunes, both of Middleboro. She was the sister of the late Howard, George, Roy and Robert Hadfield, Barbara Forney, Gert Wahlen. Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are invited to attend, will be held Monday, Aug. 25, at 10 a.m., in the Ashley Funeral Home, 35 Oak St., Middleboro. Visiting hours will be held Sunday from 4-8 p.m. Burial will take place in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory to: the Middleboro Council on Aging, c/o Donation Fund, 558 Plymouth St., Middleboro, MA 02346, would be appreciated.
