Edward Panico Obituary

Stoughton Edward A. Panico, a World War II veteran and 50 year resident of Stoughton, who was formerly of Roslindale, Quincy and Brockton, passed away at home, Friday Aug. 22, 2008. He was the beloved husband of 57 years to Dorothy L. (White). Mr. Panico was 82 years old. Born Jan. 11, 1926 in Boston, he was a loving son to the late Raffaele and Emilia (Ferri) Panico. He attended Boston public schools and later served his country as a Motor Machinists Mate with the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was the proud recipient of the World War II Victory Medal, The American Theatre Medal and The European African Middle Eastern Theatre Medal with one star. After being honorably discharged in 1946, Mr. Panico returned home and attended Radio- Technician School in Chicago. Mr. Panico, along with son Steven, were the proud owners of Rowlands T.V. in Stoughton for more than 45 years. He was also the former owner of Uncle Ed's Restaurant in Stoughton center. Mr. Panico attended and was a communicant of The Immaculate Conception Church in Stoughton. He served the town of Stoughton as a Board of Selectman member for two years, was a sponsor of many town sports teams and enjoyed playing cards. He was also the Past Venerable of The Alesandro Volta Sons of Italy Lodge in Stoughton, a past member of The Knights of Columbus Council No. 200 in Stoughton, The Michael Romanuk VFW Post 1645 in Stoughton, The American Legion Post No. 89 in Stoughton and was a former past president of The Stoughton Chamber of Commerce. Besides his wife, Mr. Panico is survived by his children, Steven M. Panico and his wife Linda of Stoughton, Deborah M. Kelley and her husband John of Florida, Michael E. Panico and his wife Donna of Florida, and Gerald R. Panico of East Wareham. He was also the proud grandfather of Jason Kelley, Kristen Panico, Christopher Panico and Michael A. Panico. He is also survived by his brother, Louis Panico of Dedham. His funeral will be held Monday, August 25, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. in The Sheehan Funeral Home, 115 Monk St., Stoughton, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial for the repose of his soul at 12 p.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church, 122 Canton St., Rte. 27, Stoughton. The Pastor Rev. Joseph P. McDermott, officiating. Burial will follow in Knollwood Memorial Park, Canton. Visiting hours will be held Sunday, August 24, 2008, from 2-6 p.m., in the funeral home. Dear Aunt Dot & Family,
We were very sorry to hear of the loss of Uncle Eddie, a.k.a "uncoolie." He was a sweet and gentle man. I can"t ever recall anything but a smile, a shrug of his shoulders, warmth, and good words coming from him. I am sure he will be deeply missed by the many lives he touched.
