Edmund Dufresne Obituary

Brockton Edmund J. Dufresne Jr., 93 years, of Brockton, died Sunday, Aug. 24, 2008, at Copley at Stoughton Nursing Center, after a period of failing health. He was the husband of the late Barbara (Dewing) Dufresne. Born in Whitman, a son of the late Mary (Avery) and Edmund J. Dufresne, he had been a resident of Brockton for most of his life. Mr. Dufresne retired as a teamster from Local 653 and was proud of having served as shop steward. During World War II, he had worked at the Fore River Shipyard in Quincy and before that time had worked in local shoe factories. Mr. Dufresne had been a longtime member of the Club National, serving as treasurer for many years, and also enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed working in his back yard vegetable garden. He was an avid sports fan, especially of the Red Sox and Patriots and played city league baseball as a young man. Mr. Dufresne is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Mehl and her husband Frederick of Brockton and a son, Paul Dufresne of Brockton. He was the loving grandfather of Cindy Wagner and her husband Robert of Stoughton, Frederick Mehl and his wife Marybeth of Whitman and Christina Derome and her husband Russell of Brockton. He was also the loving great-grandfather of Eric and Courtney Wagner of Stoughton, Siobhan Mehl of Whitman and Michelle, Jake and Kyle Derome of Brockton. He was the brother of Eva May Rocha of Taunton, George and John Dufresne, both of Brockton and the late Louis, Gerald, Richard, Albert and Louise Dufresne, Evangeline Landry, Beatrice Muniz and Florence Mahan. He also leaves many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123), Brockton, Wednesday, at 8 a.m. Funeral Mass in St. Edward/St. Edith Stein Parish, at 9 a.m. Burial in Union Cemetery, Brockton. Marilyn, So sorry to hear of your Dad's passing. My Dad went home to be with the Lord in April of 2000. It's a difficult time, I know. I think of you often and the fun times we had as kids....."Dizzy". My prayers are with you and your family. May God hold you close in His everlasting arms.

I remember Ed lived on the street I grew up on, he was the next door neighbor of my best friend. One day he found a parrot in his yard and gave it to me. One fond memory I have of him. My sympathy to his family.
