William Carnello Obituary

Wareham William Benjamin Carnello, age 88 years, of Wareham, formerly of Middleboro, died Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at the Tremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Wareham, after a brief illness. He was the husband of Grace L. (Carr) Carnello, they had been married for 59 years. He was born in Everett, son of the late Anthony and Mary (McBride) Carnello. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force during World War II, in the Quartermaster Corps, in England as a corporal. He was a medical information clerk at the Veteran's Administration Outpatient Clinic, in Boston, until his retirement. He had a private janitorial business on Beacon Hill and was a bartender at the Harvard Fly Club, Boston. He was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Middleboro, the American Legion Post No. 64, the V.F.W. Post No. 2188, the Mitchell Memorial Club, the Wankenquah Sportsman's Club, all of Middleboro. He had played football for the Mitchell Club and was an avid bowler and card player. He will be warm-heartedly remembered as a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather and a helping hand to everyone. Survivors include his wife of 59 years; one son, Mark and his wife Jacqueline Carnello; three grandchildren, William, Abby and Joshua Carnello, all of Middleboro; one brother, Frank and his wife Janet Carnello of Louisville, Ky. He was brother of the late James Carnello and Anna Lindsay. A graveside service will be held Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 11 a.m., at St. Mary's Cemetery, Wood Street, Middleboro. Visiting hours are omitted by his request. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer's Association, 311 Arsenal St., Watertown, MA 02472, would be appreciated. Mr. Carnello - my best friend's Dad. Thank you for providing me with my second home and all of those "Dilly Bars". I spent more time with your family than I did with my own. I can remember running up the street to see what treasures you found that had been thrown out in Boston. I remember your energy. I remember comparing the size of our Biceps. I remember the front seat of the Gran Torino being covered with Dairy Queen ice cream. I remember every minute that I spent in the pool. I remember how you would dive in one end, swim to the other end, then get out. I remember every "Heyyyyy Marky". I remember your kindness and your patience. I am happy with these memories. Know that you will be missed.
