Edward Powers Obituary

Edward F. Powers BROCKTON Edward F. Powers, 79 years, of Brockton, died Sunday, Aug. 31, 2008, at his home, surrounded by his family, after a lengthy illness. He was the husband for 52 years of Phyllis F. (Adelman) Powers. He was born and raised in Cambridge and had been a resident of Brockton since 1970. During the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Powers retired from Payne Engineering in Canton and previously had worked for many years at Allied Container in Dedham. Though he enjoyed bowling, crossword puzzles and Boston sport teams, Mr. Powers was most proud of his 26 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. In addition to his wife, he is survived by nine children, Edward of Pennsylvania, Jeanne OBrien of West Virginia, Barbara LeClerc of Raynham, Michael of East Bridgewater, Donna Powers of Taunton, Kelly Miller of Florida, Richard of South Easton, Leanne Benoit and Theresa Daley, both of Brockton. He was the brother of Doris OConnor of Cambridge, Ernest of South Carolina and Charles of New Hampshire. Funeral from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123), Brockton, Friday at 8 a.m. Funeral Mass in St. Edith Stein/St. Edward Parish at 9 a.m. Cremation will follow. Visiting hours Thursday 4-8 p.m. Donations in Edwards name may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701, or Old Colony Hospice, One Credit Union Way, Randolph, MA 02368.
