Doris Atwood Obituary

HANSON Doris (White) Atwood, of Hanson, died Saturday, Sept. 20, 2008, at JML Care Center in Falmouth. She was 90 years old. She was the wife of the late Chester Chet W. Atwood; loving mother of Sherelyn Pope of Lynchburg, Va., Sheila Kanode of Arlington and Marthel Wass of East Falmouth; sister of the late Leroy Bud White, Clement White and Thelma Earle; beloved grandmother of DeeDee Davis, Valarie Moretti, David Moore, Miles R. Kanode Jr., Sean P. Kanode and Amanda Wass; cherished great-grandmother of Elizabeth Vera Davis and Danica Jane Moretti. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was born in Brockton, Oct. 21, 1917, daughter of the late Walter A. and Ethel (Farrington) White. Doris worked at Hanson Hardware for 36 years and was officially known as Mother Hardware. She was the Rockland-Hanson Citizen of the Year in 2001-2002. She enjoyed bowling at the Hanson AA, roller skating, cooking chocolate chip cookies, gardening, sewing, making clothing for kids and beach buggy riding. Calling hours in the Leighton-MacKinnon Funeral Home, 4 West Washington St. (at Rte. 58), Hanson, Wednesday, Sept. 24, from 4-7 p.m. A funeral service will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. in the funeral home. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment in Fern Hill Cemetery, Hanson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Doris memory to the American Heart Assoc., 20 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
