William Burns Obituary

William H. Burns Jr. WHITMAN William H. Burns Jr., died Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at South Shore Hospital. He was 76. William was born in Brockton and lived in Whitman all his life. He was a graduate of Whitman High School. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during the Korean War. He worked at the Bostonian Shoe Company for 26 years and later was the bar manager for the Knights of Columbus in Whitman. He was a longtime 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 347 in Whitman and also past district deputy and past Grand Knight. He was a member of the American Legion Post 22 in Whitman and the Enterprise Club of Brockton. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joan Joann (Chisholm) Burns of Whitman; his children, John W. Burns and his wife Deborah of Raynham, Kathleen A Cerra and her husband John of Kona, Hawaii, and the late Patricia M. Anderson-Volk; brother of Josephine Yanuss of Whitman and the late Margaret Luddy an d Joseph Burns; grandfather of Ian, Michelle, Deanna, Rose and John Jr.; and great-grandfather of Brent, Mariah and Sean. Relatives and friends invited to attend visiting hours in the MacKinnon Funeral Home, 760 Washington St., Whitman, Sunday, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral Mass Monday in Holy Ghost Church, in Whitman, at 10 a.m. Interment is private. and family : I am sorry I could not attend the services. I worked will Bill at the KofC and saw him at the American Legion frequently. He will always be a part of my life and my children. He was a great dancer. He used to make me dance with him even though I was working. My prayers are with you all.
