Lawrence J. Costa

MIDDLEBORO Lawrence J. Larry Costa, age 80 years, of Middleboro, died peacefully, Thursday, Nov. 6, 2008, at Island Terrace Nursing Home in Lakeville. Born Saturday, June 9, 1928, in Bridgewater, he was a son of the late Lawrence D. and Alda (Anti) Costa. Larry was a 1946 graduate of Bridgewater High School and received his masters degree in education from Bridgewater State College. He was a teacher for many years, teaching in Carver, Bridgewater, Marshfield and Long Island, NY. He then worked at the Massachusetts Correctional Institution as a social worker from 1960 to his retirement in 1987. He was a life member of the Middleboro Elks and was a recipient of the Brotherhood Award from the National Conference of Christians and Jews. In his earlier years, he played football and baseball and was an avid walker. He is survived by his children, Jennifer Wilson of Alabama, Lawrence A. Costa of Middleboro and Leah Costa of New Hampshire; three grandchildren, Danielle Keilwein of Alabama, Felicia Borowiec of New Hampshire and Joshua Costa of New Hampshire A funeral Mass of Christian Burial will take place Monday, at 10 a.m. in Sacred Heart Church, Middleboro. Interment will follow in St. Marys Cemetery in Middleboro. Visitation will take place Sunday, from 5-8 p.m. in the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 280 Bedford St., Lakeville. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given in Larrys memory to the Middleboro Elks, 24 High St., Middleboro, MA or to Island Terrace Nursing Home, 57 Long Point Rd., Lakeville, MA.
