James F. Heffernan

ROCKLAND James F. Heffernan, 81, a lifelong resident of Rockland, died at home, Friday, Nov. 7, 2008, after a long illness. The son of the late James F. and Margaret (Dwyer) Heffernan, he was born in Rockland, Jan. 16, 1927. He was raised and educated in Rockland and served in the Navy during World War II. Mr. Heffernan had been employed as a shipwright at the former Bethlehem Steel and the former General Dynamics in Quincy. He was Past Commander and life member at the Rockland VFW Post 1788 and served as Grand Marshall for the 2006 Veterans Day Parade. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading, history and especially spending time with family. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Faith (Campbell) Heffernan; three children, Lorraine Heffernan of Marlboro, N.J., James W. Heffernan and his wife Kathleen of Bridgewater and Jennifer Heffernan of Rockland; three grandchildren, Theresa, James and Julia, all of Bridgewater; and he was the brother of Harry Giblin of Weymouth, Ruth MacAulay of Marblehead and the late Barbara Unwin, John Heffernan and Margaret Beary; also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass Wednesday, at 9 a.m. in Holy Family Church, 403 Union St., Rockland. Interment in Holy Family Cemetery.
