When I read my Uncle Dean's obituary, it brings tears to my eyes. Not because he is gone, but because it is just a list of facts about him. It doesn't even show a glimpse of the amazing, inspiring, brilliant man that he was. I remember my uncle sitting at the dining room table teaching me to read like it was yesterday. He was my favorite uncle (still is!) because he was always so much fun to be around. Because he was the older sibling, he and my older sister had a great relationship. (They both took pleasure in teasing me!) I had an American Girl doll when I was younger and I was convinced that she was my daughter. Uncle Dean would always hide her from me when I wasn't looking or pretend like he was going to cut her hair off! Now, this memory doesn't make him the person I would like everyone to remember him as, though. (It just shows he has a great sense of humor!) I credit a lot of what I learned from him, and I think that I recieved my intelligence genes from him. =) He got me interested in photography, and I have now been involved with it for three years. He also got me interested in guitar; I can remember when I would visit him, I would play with all of his instruments, wishing I could stay all day to learn them. Now I have a guitar of my own, and I love it. I remember when he used to live in Boston and my excitement grew as the week progressed, waiting for it to be Saturday when I could visit him with my grandparents. After we would visit him at his house, we went to Kelly's Roast Beef for lunch. He always got a roast beef sandwich, I always got a cheeseburger, and we would share. These memories I know will forever be close to my heart. It breaks my heart to know that we won't be making any more. This is the kind of person he was, which is what I wish people could see reading his obituary.
We Will Miss You Uncle Dean
Love Always and Forever,
Your Favorite Niece =)
