Lilly Downey Obituary

HALIFAX Lilly Elisabeth (Carlson) Downey, 81, of Halifax, formerly of Hanson and Plymouth, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at Brigham and Womens Hospital, in Boston, after a short illness. A daughter of the late Frank and Naomi (Gustofson) Carlson, she was born in Holbrook, Oct. 20, 1927. She was raised and educated in Holbrook and had been employed as a teller at Rockland Trust Company. Mrs. Downey had been a foster mother with Home for Little Wanderers, a volunteer with the Halifax Council on Aging, a member of the Order of Easton Star and loved gardening. She was a devoted wife of the late Russell Elliot Downey; loving mother of Linda Downey Anthony of Halifax, Neil Russell Downey of Weymouth, Frank Elliott Downey of Massachusetts and Steven Arthur Downey of Florida; loving sister of David F. Carlson of Ohio and the late Edgar A. Carlson; devoted grandmother of Christopher and Jennifer Petralito and Matthew, Nicholas and Joshua Downey; and loving great-grandmother of Anthony Petralito. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 2 Maquan St., at the corner of Rtes. 14 and 58, in Hanson, Sunday, from 2-6 p.m. Private graveside service in Plymouth County Memorial Park.
