Richard A. Palmer MIDDLEBORO Richard A. Palmer, 69, of Middleboro, died Wednesday, Dec. 10, in the Morton Hospital, after a short period of failing health. He was the husband of Jo-Ann (Nagel) Palmer of Middleboro. He was born in Boston and raised in Dorchester and Abington. He was a son of the late George and Mae (Adams) Palmer. Richard was a graduate of Abington High School and he served his country in the United States Army. Richard was a well known wild life artist, specializing in the carving of birds. Some of his bird carvings have been on display at the Smithsonian Institute and many well known Americans have purchased them. He currently has been selling his carvings at the Ducktrap Bay Trading Company in Camden, Maine. Richard also taught woodcarving classes and displayed his carvings at many Audubon Society shows. In addition to his wife Jo-Ann, he is survived by his children, David and Lynn Palmer, both of Middleboro; his brothers, Robert Palmer of Brockton, Thomas Palmer of North Carolina, Joseph Palmer and his sister Abigail Tessier of East Bridgewater. He was the brother of the late Donald Palmer of Georgia. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jeffery Andrews and Brittney Reed, whom he loved and helped raise. He leaves his very close friend, Richard Hill, also a bird carver; and several nieces and nephews. All services will be held at a later date by request of the family.
