Richard Dudley Obituary

Richard E. Dudley Sr. Norton Richard E. Dudley Sr., 55, of Norton died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007, surrounded by his loving family at Rhode Island Hospital in Providence. He was the beloved husband of Ramona A. (Cyr) Dudley, to whom he was wed to on Aug.17, 1974. Born in Norwood, on Aug. 6, 1952, he was a dear son of the late Paul A. and Lillian B. (Towner) Dudley Sr. He grew up in Avon and was a 1972 graduate of Avon High School. Mr. Dudley had worked as a shipping manager and shop steward for J.J. Nissen/ I.B.C. in Brockton for more than 25 years, before retiring. He was a member of the Teamsters Union Local 653 in Brockton. Active with Norton Little League, football and basketball, he had assisted coach Dave Mollica for 17 years with the Norton Varsity Baseball Team. He also enjoyed harness racing and helping friends in the training or race horses and was also an avid fisherman. Rick looked forward to his weekend trips to Dunkin Donuts in Norton, where he and the gang would socialize about the weeks events. His family was a big part of his life, especially his grandson and new born granddaughter. He had made his home in Norton for the past 30 years and was formerly of Avon. In addition to his beloved wife of more than 33 years, he is survived by his devoted sons, Richard E. Dudley Jr. and his wife Soula of Mansfield and Jason E. Dudley and Matthew P. Dudley, both of Norton; his brothers and sister, Paul A. Dudley Jr. of Quincy, Blanche Calarese of Franklin, Ronald Sullivan of Brockton and Gordon Sullivan of Stoughton; his cherished grandchildren, Drew J. Dudley and Alexia L. Dudley, both of Mansfield; also survived by his sister-in-law, Cindy Guerra and her husband John of Milton; his brother-in-law, Michael Cyr and his wife Kathy of Randolph; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Rita and Joseph Haggerty of Norton; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins and dear friends. Funeral services, to which relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend, will be held on Monday, Oct. 22, at 10 a.m. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home, 19 Clapp St. (off Rte. 140, Taunton Avenue), Norton. Burial will follow in the Timothy Plain Cemetery, Norton. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, Oct. 21, from 4-8 p.m. at the Norton Memorial Funeral Home. Richards family has requested that in place of flowers donations be made to the Richard E. Dudley Sr. Trust Fund, c/o Bank of Easton, 275 Washington St., North Easton, MA 02356.
