Shirley Sawabini Obituary

Shirley Sawabini Easton Shirley (DelVecho) Sawabini, a longtime resident of Easton and Bridgewater, died Tuesday following a brief illness. Born in Salem on Feb. 24, 1921, she was a daughter of Harold and Dorothy DelVecho. She grew up in Salem and Somerville and graduated from Somerville High School. Mrs. Sawabini studied pathology at Cambridge Hospital and was a pathology technician at Mount Auburn Hospital in Cambridge. She and her late husband, Charles Sawabini, were married on June 30, 1951, in Boston. They lived in Randolph, Framingham, Portland, Maine, and North Hampton, N.H., before moving to Easton with their five children in 1965. Mrs. Sawabini resumed her career in the late 1960s, when she took a position as a technician in the pathology lab at Brockton Hospital, where she worked for many years before retiring. She moved to Bridgewater in 1983 and lived there for 20 years before returning to Easton to live with her daughters. She will be greatly missed by her five children and their families, Eveline S. Johnson of Easton and her husband Ken, Charles E. Sawabini Jr. of Boulder Creek, Calif., and his wife Jo, Donald B. Sawabini of Madison, Wis., and his wife, Sheila, Susan Merola of Easton and her husband Ronald and Robert Sawabini of Lynchburg, Va.; seven grandchildren, Gene, Mark, Lauren, Samantha, Christopher, Lark and Jenny; two great-grandchildren, Mimi and Lucas; a niece, two great-nieces and two great-nephews. She was the sister of the late Robert DelVecho of Quincy. Calling hours will be 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, at the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 647 Main St., Brockton. The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, West Bridgewater. Donations in her memory may be made to the hospice VistaCare, 690 Canton St., Westwood, MA 02090.
