Clifford Shearing Obituary

Clifford F. Shearing Jr. Bridgewater Clifford F. Cliff Shearing Jr., 61 years, of Bridgewater died Monday evening at his home under the care of hospice. He was the husband for 18 years of Marylou E. (OBrien) Shearing. Cliff was born and raised in Brockton, a son of the late Clifford F. Shearing Sr. and Juanita (Albares) (Shearing) Silva, and for the past 16 years he had resided in Bridgewater. Cliff was a 1964 graduate of Brockton High School, where he was a member of the varsity football and baseball teams. He was also a graduate of Bridgewater State College in 1968. Until his illness, he was a manager of the Brockton Call Center for the Massachusetts Division of Unemployment and Assistance. For many years, Cliff worked part time at Hassan Pharmacy in Brockton. Cliff was an accomplished golfer who once scored a double eagle. He was a member of the Brockton Country Club and had won the club championship in 2000. In his younger years, Cliff played on the Juniper Tap Slow Pitch Softball Team and won the championship 11 out of 12 years that he played. He also enjoyed vacations at East Sandwich Beach, Marco Island and Newport, R.I., and loved to read. Cliff will be remembered as humorous and forthright, but also very sentimental and with a large heart. In addition to his to his wife, he is survived by a sister, Terry Gaquin and her husband Jack of Bridgewater; and a brother, Lawrence Shearing and his partner Philip Garcia of Brockton. He also leaves an uncle, Gerald Albares of Baton Rouge, La.; a nephew, John Gaquin; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws in the OBrien family. A funeral will be held from the Conley Funeral Home, 138 Belmont St. (Rte. 123), Brockton, Friday at 8 a.m. Funeral Mass in St. Edith Stein/St. Edward Parish at 9 a.m. Visiting hours 4-8 p.m Donations in Cliffs name may be made to Old Colony Hospice, One Credit Union Way, Randolph, MA 02368.
