Mr. Newell,
Sir, I didn't know you but I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the USN aboard the aircraft carrier USS Franklin D. Roosevelt(CVB-42). And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Fair Winds And Following Seas

Some years ago, I was fortunate enough to meet a man with whom I would be an occasional traveling companion.I soon found he had a good sense of humor, compassion, humility and sharing.
(You,ve probably guessed the traveling, for the most part, was between Brockton and parts of Florida.)
He shared his time, being a good host when I visited with him in either location.
He was always ready to help when needed and his sense of humor was never far from the surface. He was one of the few people I can recall who was able to bring an occasional
burst of nearly uncontrolable laughter when speaking of ordinary things; even during a phone conversation.
He made me feel my opinion was important and at times we would spend hours 'antique-ing', and it seemed like no time at all.
When Doris and I were married, somehow he heard of when and where
it was to be and we were so happy to see him.We spent some times with
him in Florida where he was a gracious host (always);we played
games, made puzzles, and walked every day.
During the recent past,we had not
seen him often, but tried, and occasionally made contact by phone.
We are deeply saddened to hear of his passing.
We already miss him; 'Johnny'was a good friend and a true 'Gentle-man'.
May he rest easy. Phil and Doris
