Derek L. Rice Carver Derek L. Rice, of Carver, formerly of Abington. It is with great sadness that the family of Derek L. Rice announces his unexpected passing on Monday, Dec. 3, 2007, at 37 years of age. Derek was a carpenter by trade and work-ed for Boston Carpenter's Union, Local No. 33. He loved the outdoors, particularly when he was hunting, fishing and riding his Harley. He had a passion for rock music and enjoyed playing the drums. Derek cherished most, the time he spent with his adored daughter, Haley. Derek was the beloved son of Mary (McSharry) Rice of Abington and Richard "Red" Rice of Hanson; devoted father of Haley E. Rice of Abington; loving brother of Elizabeth Rice of Quincy and Gary Rice of Pembroke. He was the grandson of Mary B. McSharry of Rockland and the late Thomas F. McSharry. Derek is lovingly remembered by his companion, Katie Mahon of Carver, and her daughter, Taylor. He will also be missed by Haley's mother, Gina Palmieri of Abington; as well as his many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew, cousins and friends. Funeral from the Leighton-MacKinnon Funeral Home, 4 West Washington St. (at Rte.58), Hanson, on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph the Worker Church (Rtes. 58 and 14), Hanson. Calling hours on Friday from 4-8 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Interment will be in Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Pembroke. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Haley E. Rice Benefit Account, c/o Rockland Trust Co., 288 Union St., Rockland, MA 02370.
