Julius Feldheim Obituary

Marshfield Julius Joseph "J.J." Feldheim peacefully passed on Sunday, June 8, 2008 at age 97 in Marshfield, Massachusetts. Husband of the late Ruby A. Dantin for 71 years, son of the late Julius H. Feldheim and Marguerite F. Vidacovich Feldheim. Survived by his daughter, Joycelyn F. Tiliakos of Metairie and son Donald E. Feldheim of Marshfield, Massachusetts; also, one grandson, four granddaughters, five great-grandsons, and one great-granddaughter; also by his brother, Elmer C. Feldheim of Metairie. According to his wishes, no ceremonies will be held. J.J. was born in New Orleans, March 11, 1911 and resided in New Orleans and Metairie LA until August 2005, when he moved to Massachusetts due to approaching storms. He was educated in New Orleans public schools and the I.C. Special school of Scranton, PA. Joined staff of Woodward Wight & Company, Ltd. in 1928; retired after 50 years; served as General Traffic Manager; also managed several other departments. He was an active member of the N.O. Chamber of Commerce, serving as chairman of the N.O. Wholesale Distributors Committee; was long-time Director of the N.O. Traffic and Transportation Bureau, practicing before the LA Public Service Commission in Baton Rouge and the I.C.C.always with a compromising spirit, helping both shipper and carrier. Served for many years as Assistant Scout Master, Boy Scouts of America and Assistant Post Leader, Explorer Scouts of America; inducted into the Order of the Arrow. Long-time attendee of First Church of Christ, Scientist in New Orleans. He will be missed and lovingly remembered for his unconditional love, generosity, and as a remarkably wonderful Husband, Dad, Grandfather, and Great-grandfather. For all who knew him, J.J., The General, Poppy, or Poppy-the-Great, was as an example of irreproachable character, ethics, tolerance, forgiveness, and humility, never having an unkind worda genuine Southern gentleman. He was a deep spiritual thinker, practicing his spirituality and love for God without wearing it on his sleeve. By those closest to him, hell be remembered fondlyand with a smilefor his recurrent parting advice: Be thankful, and be alert.

Dear Heidi and Family,
I just read about Poppy in the newspaper and I'm so very sorry. I know that you all have some very wonderful memories of him. You always kept us laughing with stories of Poppy. What a legend!
