I caught this sad news in Stanford Magazine. My sincere condolences to all his relatives and especially his kids. What a super guy, unforgetable personality and great competitor. To those who don't know, Chris is the only reason the Kappa Sigs ever won any intramural sporting events in the early 80's.

I met Chris through a business relationship. I lived in STL but whenever we would travel to a client site, we'd share a beer at dinner and talk about about how there were no "good ones left" out there in the dating world (he preferred golf anyway, he'd say). I had met a great guy off the Internet here in STL so I suggested to Chris he try the same thing to find a "hot chick". And he met Darcy. I remember him telling me that I'd had a "good idea", and when he told me they were getting married, it turned into a "great idea". I just learned of his passing and I feel so honored to have known him; he told me about those 72 holes with his buddies during the summer solstice with great affection guys. Although I did not know him long and we lost track of each other, I feel blessed having known him.

Chris was one of the best competitors I ever played with. It was a joy to watch him playing the last hole with the tournament on the line, bringing in a big win for his team. He loved being with his golf buddies, and was a fierce spirit with our group both on and off the course. He will be missed by all. My condolences to all his family.

I will add to our son Kent's note. Chris sent me Mother's Day cards after he and our daughter Anne divorced. He sent me flowers after my hip surgery. He was an important part of our family life for over fifteen years. Our family will miss him.

It's difficult to write about, let alone comprehend, the untimely death of Chris. I had lost track of him when he and Anne parted ways (divorce unfortunately does that to families) and last saw him at a tailgater a couple years ago trying to be hopeful at halftime about Stanford rallying back against OSU. It had been years and we both had grayed but immediately connected. Chris had a big, generous heart and we teed it up many times together- mostly I'll remember rounds at Black Butte. He meant a great deal to our family and I will speak for all of us in expressing our sorrow and sense of loss that he is gone far too soon.
Needless to say, I've hoisted a couple "be-uhs" in remembrance. He was a big personality and always great with my 3 girls and the entire family of Tolands.

I only knew Chris professionally and actually never met him in person . . just emailed and talked with him on the phone. Life is so precious and every passing makes us realize that we are all connected and feel the loss deeply. My heart goes out to his beautiful children and their mother. We all have an impact on one another . . . and the ripples of one on that pond, affect us all. Thank you for putting pictures of Chris on the guest book so I could finally see whom I had talked to . . and put a face to the person I had worked with.

Chris was a formidable man, and anyone who spent even a short time with him can attest to his intelligence, humor and grace. The world is poorer for the loss.
My deepest sympathies go out to his family, his two beautiful children, and Darcy, his former wife and closest confidante.
Rest in piece, Chris.

My condolences to the family and friends of Chris. I have many vivid and cheerful memories from so long ago. I remember one of the late night runs to Reno, being up a couple hundred at craps, then losing it all on one roll and Chris saying, "C'mon, that was great!!"

Chris was a friend and a brother. I will always treasure the fun times we had --- in college, on the golf course, just being stupid guys. He will be deeply missed.
