James Mahoney Obituary

Holbrook James P. Mahoney, of Holbrook, formerly of Charlestown passed away at the age of 84, July 14, 2008. Beloved husband of 55 years to Rita C. (Chiarino) Mahoney. Loving father of Kenneth L. Mahoney and his wife Laurie of Bridgewater, Pauline Romano and her husband John of Rochester and Patricia Lowery of Holbrook. Devoted brother of John Mahoney of Quincy the late Margaret Langan and Edward Mahoney. Dear grandfather of Theresa Chagnon and her husband Jason of Rockland, Lisa Lowery of Holbrook, Jared Mahoney of Abington, Justin Lowery of ID and Nick Morris of Bridgewater. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and his faithful companions Bowzer and Hailey. Jim was retired 1994 from the Town of Holbrook D.P.W. and Water Dept. with over 40 years of service. He was also the former grounds keeper for the Cartwright Funeral Home, Holbrook for many years. Jim enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren attending their various activities and sporting events. He enjoyed puttering, fixing things and helping friends and neighbors. He was a WWII US Army veteran who was stationed in Japan during the war. Jim was a call firefighter for the town of Holbrook before there were permanent firefighters. He was also a member of the Fr. Bransfield Council Knights of Columbus and the American Legion Post 137, Holbrook. Mr. Mahoney has lived in Holbrook for the past 55 years and prior to that he was born in Boston grew up in Charlestown and was a graduate of Charlestown High School. Reposing at the Cartwright Funeral Home, 69 So. Franklin St., (Rte. 37) Holbrook until 8:00 a.m. Monday followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:00 in St. Joseph Church, Holbrook. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Sunday 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Burial in Union Cemetery, Holbrook. Should friends desire in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in loving memory of James P. Mahoney to the Free Spirit Fund, c/o Colonial federal Savings Bank, 802 So. Mr. Mahoney,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your years of dedicated service and sacrifice-first for our Country when you served in the U.S. Army during WW II and secondly for the citizens of Holbrook when you served as a call firefighter. Dear Mrs. Mahoney & children,
I am so sorry to hear of Jims passing.
He was a wonderful man, and a great fireman, who I remember along with my Dad ( Ed Marble)being dedicated firemen. Growing up in Brooksville as a child,I also babysat your 1st 2 children. My name is Claire Marble Rice.
Jim was an awesome man, whom I have thought of many times in my adult life, as he was a great kidder and wonderful to all of us as kids growing up, on South St.
What a remarkable man he was and I am truly sorry for your loss. You and Jim made a wonderful couple and I am glad I had the honor of knowing the both of you.
