Joan B. King

Rockland Joan B. Tonie (Gillespie) King, 74, died on July 18, 2008 at the South Shore Rehabilitation and Skilled Care Facility in Rockland. She was born in Boston, daughter of the late George A. and Elsie Gillespie and was raised and educated in Dorchester. She was a graduate of Archbishop Cushing Central Catholic High School. Tonie has made her home in Rockland since 1957. She was very proud to have been actively involved in the Defenders Music Association, having served as treasurer of the drum and bugle corps for many years. Mrs. King retired several years ago after serving for nearly a dozen years as a secretary in the Rockland Public Schools both at Rockland High School and in the office of the Superintendent. She is survived by her husband, Alfred T. King and her children, Jacqueline M. King of Jamaica Plain and Steven A. King and his wife Carol of Shrewsbury. She was the sister of George A. Gillespie of Northboro and the late Lester Buddy Gillespie. Tonie was the proud grandmother of Kristen and Tyler King of Shrewsbury. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews. A Funeral will be held from the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home, 135 Union Street ROCKLAND, on Wednesday at 8:15 AM. A Funeral Mass will follow in Holy Family Church at 9:00 AM.
