Jean Latak Obituary

Weymouth Jean E. (Taber) Latak, 80 years of age, passed away on Friday, August 1, 2008 at the Colonial Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Boston and had been a long time resident of Weymouth. She was a graduate of Weymouth High School and of the Kathleen Dell Secretarial School in Boston. She was a past Matron of the Mayflower Chapter #65 Order of Eastern Star and had been a volunteer for the South Shore Hospital. She had also volunteered for the Red Cross Blood Bank and the Get Well Baby Clinic which was sponsored by the Visiting Nurse Association and held at the Congregational Church of East Weymouth. She enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Maine, Florida and Canada and took several cruises to the Caribbean and the Panama Canal. She enjoyed swimming and walking. She was a member of the Union Congregational Church of Weymouth and Braintree. Jean is survived by her beloved husband John A. Latak whom she met while attending Sunday School. They would have been married 60 years this September. She is survived by a son David T. Latak married to Jane Latak of Marshfield and by a daughter Ruth Ann Hickey married to Stephen Hickey of Duxbury. Her grandchildren with whom she enjoyed spending time with are Julie, Katie, Sarah and James Latak and Lorraine, Theresa, Claire and Matthew Hickey. Jeans Parents were the late Harry F. Taber and Ruth (Hodgkins) Taber, both formerly of Weymouth. A Funeral Service to which relatives and friends are invited will be held on Tuesday August 5th at 10:00 a.m. at the Mortimer N. Peck-Russell Peck Funeral Home, 870 Broad Street, (opposite the US Post office in Jackson Square), EAST WEYMOUTH. The Reverend Brian Anderson Pastor of the Union Congregational Church of Weymouth and Braintree will officiate. Burial will follow at the Edgell Grove Cemetery, Framingham. Visiting Hours will be on Monday from 4-8 p.m. Memorial donations may be sent to the Alzheimers Association, 311 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA 02472. Dear John and family....Deepest sympathy on the loss of your beloved Jean. While I never met Jean personally, I know my mother often spoke of her and her parents in a fond manner. I knew you from the bank...you taught me the value of saving money when I was a young married woman. Mark and I always relied on your advise in money matters and you helped us get into our first home. You are all in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. May God bless you all.
