John Maynard Obituary

Dover Master Sergeant John Thomas Maynard, United States Air Force, retired, of Dover, DE, died Thursday July 31, 2008 at home surrounded by his family after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was 45. John was born June 26, 1963 in Tewksbury , MA. John proudly served in the United States Air Force for 21 years, where he worked as a loadmaster until his retirement in 2002. He enjoyed traveling; throwing a good party, all Boston Sports Teams, Elvis Presley and Jimmy Buffet music. John was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Dover. John's greatest joy in life was spending time with his family. He was preceded in death by his dad, John J. Maynard and his father in law, William F. Atkins. John is survived by his wife of 22 years, Susan Atkins Maynard, his daughter, Kristina Maynard and his mother, Frances Maynard; all of Dover; his father, John Kelliher and his wife Faye of Weymouth, MA; two brothers, Todd Maynard and his wife Michele and their children Emily and Lukas of Weymouth, MA, John Kelliher and his wife Robyn and their children Olivia, Angelina, and Alannah of Wareham, MA; three sisters, Cheryl Newcomb and her husband Keith and their children Jennifer, Holly, Emily, Brian, and Eric of Townsend, MA, Gail McCarthy and her husband John and their son John of Weymouth, MA, Linda Magee and her husband David and their children Alexis, Grace, Jack, and Lilah of Norwell, MA; his mother-in-law, Chris Atkins of Dover; his sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Benny Daniels of Warwick, MD and his niece and nephew Andrew and Amanda Knopf. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at Torbert Funeral Chapel South, 1145 E. Lebanon Road (Rt. 10) Dover, DE. Friends may call two hours prior. Interment will be in Sharon Hills Memorial Park, Dover. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to Delaware Hospice, 911 S. DuPont Highway, Dover, DE 19901 or Home of the Brave, 6632 Sharps Road, Milford, DE 19963. Letters of condolences may be sent, and guestbook be signed, at torbertfuneral.com

Hello Sue,
I've never had the pleasure of meeting you or your Daughter, but I know Johnny was very proud of you both and loved you very much. He has always been my Nephew, my Friend....He will be missed greatly..I know Frannie is having a hard time right now also, but know he's at peace in God's house. Love you all,

IT SEEMS LIKE YESTERDAY WE WERE JUST KIDS. SOMETHING LIKE THIS MAKES YOU THINK OF HOW SHORT LIFE CAN BE. JOHNNY WAS ALWAYS A GREAT GUY AND I'M SURE GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF HIM. I LIKE TO BELIEVE A GUY LIKE JOHNNY WAS CHOSEN TO SO WE HAVE SOMEONE REALLY GREAT TO WELCOME US WHEN IT'S OUR TIME .
