Mary Moriarty Obituary

Quincy Mary Elizabeth (Igoe) Moriarty, of Quincy, MA and Seminole, FL, recently passed away after a brief illness, surrounded by her loving family. Her husband, John J. Moriarty of Quincy, predeceased her. Mary was a fun-loving, and very loving, mother of six. Some of her favorite pastimes were camping, weekly Bingo, traveling, and visits to Foxwoods Casino in CT and Gulfstream Park in Hallandale, FL. She especially enjoyed past vacations to Hawaii and Mexico, as well as frequent visits to family in CA, VA and Miami. Mary's joke-telling was well known to her many friends and family, and she could always be depended upon to get the party started. Mary is also remembered for her years as a cast member of St. Boniface Church's annual Minstrel Show, where she not only showed off her singing, dancing and comedic talents, but also made many lifelong friendships. Mary spent winters in Seminole, FL, where she swam, played Bingo, shopped with her friends, and was doted upon by her nieces and nephews Patricia and Pete Gavaghan and Deborah and Bill Eckert. During the summer months, she lived in Hull, MA, spending weekends at Ellis Haven in Plymouth. Mary recently celebrated her 80th birthday with parties in both MA and FL, attended by many friends and relatives. Born the daughter of Thomas and Annie Lennon Igoe, she lived in Jamaica Plain and spent wonderful summers in Hull with her siblings and cousins. She spent most of her adult life in Quincy. Mary leaves behind her loving, long-time companion, George 'Sonny' McManus. She also leaves a daughter, Patricia Petrilli and her husband Richard; three sons, Dr. Richard P. Moriarty and wife Katherine; John, Jr., and wife Diane; Kevin, and wife Gemma; and a daughter-in-law Mary R. Moriarty. She was predeceased by two sons, Thomas and Patrick Moriarty. Mary was 'Nana' to nine grandchildren and five great-grandsons, and leaves many loving nieces and nephews. Her sons' wives and her son-in-law, all of whom adored her, described Mary as 'the best mother-in-law in the world.' A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, August 9th, at 10:00 a.m., at St. Ann Church, Samoset Avenue and Lewis Street, Hull, followed by burial at Hull Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Wellspring Multi-Service Center, 814 Nantasket Avenue, Hull, MA 02045. There will be no visiting hours. Arrangements were made by McHoul Funeral Home, Dorchester.

Thanks for the memories, Mary!!! You always made us laugh. Especially when Rooney would be on us for being "caca". We had some wonderful times and we truly were a family. "Break a Leg"
