Virginia Shute Obituary

Hingham Virginia Shute, a lifelong resident of Hingham, died on Monday, July 28th, 2008 at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. She was 57. A 1969 graduate of Hingham High School, Ginny worked for twenty years at the former Great Escape restaurant in Weymouth. In the 1970's she volunteered as a prompter for the Hingham Student Summer Theater. More recently she was a regular volunteer at the Hingham Interfaith Food Pantry. She had been an avid bowler and an informal weather watcher for Channel 5 News. Like her paternal grandmother, Agnes K. Shute, Ginny conducted an extensive correspondence with family and friends throughout the country and was well-known for getting her Christmas Cards in the mail the day after Thanksgiving. A gifted punster and Scrabble fiend, Ginny was also a loyal fan of the Miami Dolphins and the Boston Bruin's. Ginny was the beloved daughter of Elizabeth J. (Glassford) Shute of Hingham and the late Philip K. Shute. She was the sister of Philip and Jane Shute of Hingham, Elizabeth and Sim Cozart of North Carolina and Stephanie and Steve Kelsch of Hingham. Ginny was also the aunt of Philip and Katie Shute of Newton, Russell Shute of Quincy and Emily and Ben Cozart of North Carolina. A Memorial Service will be conducted on Saturday, August 16th at 11 AM at the Second Parish Church, 685 Main St. (Rt. 228), Hingham, MA 02043. Visiting hours and flowers omitted by request. I got word from my family in Hingham of Ginny's passing and was saddened at the news. I have lovely memories of Ginny. We rode the bus to school together for many years, and I will always remember her wonderful smile and the friendliness she always shared. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
