Shirley Martin Obituary

Hingham Shirley L. (Leupold) Martin died peacefully at her home in Hingham surrounded by her loving family and friends on Thursday August 21, 2008. She was 80 years of age. Born in Boston, she was raised and educated in Belmont graduating with Belmont High Schools class of 1946. Shirley also graduated with a bachelor of science degree from Simmons College in 1950. She worked from 1950-1984 as a registered nurse at South Shore Hospital and other hospitals. She also volunteered her time and nursing skills to the Town of Hingham Health Dept., the Red Cross and the American Cancer Society. Shirley and her late husband maintained a home in Islamorada, Fl where she was an active member of the Metecumbe United Methodist Church. Shirley was also a member of the House of Prayer Lutheran Church in Hingham, the International Order of Rainbow and a 33 year member of A.A. Beloved wife of the late Randall R. Martin. Devoted mother of Ed Martin married to Nancy of Norwell, Bob Martin married to Randie of Medfield, David Martin married to Cathy of Hingham and Nancy Goldberg married to Jon of Kennebunk, ME. Also survived by 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Funeral Service in the House of Prayer Lutheran Church, 916 Main St., Hingham, on Monday at 11:00 AM. Interment to follow in the High St. Cemetery Hingham. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours in the EAST WEYMOUTH McDonald Funeral Home, corner Middle and Charles Sts. (at 3 Charles St.) Sunday 2:00-4:00 and 7:00-9:00 PM. 30 yrs ago when I was new to sobriety I met Shirley at Logan and I was nervous about the flite it was so reassuring to meet a friendly face. I still think of her,God Bless
