Thomas Collyer Obituary

Rockland Thomas W. Collyer 76 a lifelong Rockland resident died very suddenly on August 26, 2008 at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. He was born in Weymouth son of the late Charles and Ruth (Robinson) Collyer. Tom was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He retired in 1993 after a lengthy career as a self employed auto mechanic at his business named Toms Auto. Mr. Collyer was a member of the Josselyn Cummings Post #149 of the American Legion in Hanover and was an avid gardener. He was the husband of the late Dorothy (Morgan) Collyer and the father of the late Thomas W. Collyer, Jr. and William T. Collyer. Tom is survived by his children, Dorothy A. Murray of Rockland, Robert A. Collyer of Brockton and Vicki L. Cederquist of Plymouth. He was the brother of Ruth Schadwald of Rockland, Joan Gillis of FL, Miriam Ferwerda of Hanover, Nancy Carle of Bridgewater, Edith Ferguson of VA, Charles Bud Collyer of Quincy and the late Robert, Carleton and Owen Collyer. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, a great granddaughter and many nieces and nephews. Rev. Kristy Coburn will officiate at a Funeral Service that will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home 135 Union St. ROCKLAND. Burial will follow in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Rockland. Calling hours will be on Thursday from 5-8 p.m. Donations in his memory may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 44 Binney Street, Boston, Ma. 02115.
