George Mahoney Obituary

HANOVER Mr. George E. Mahoney, 74, of Hanover, died Thursday, August 28, 2008 at home. The son of the late James and Mary (Murray) Mahoney, he was born in Boston on July 2, 1934. He was raised and educated in South Boston and was a graduate Gate of Heaven School, Christopher Columbus High School and Bentley College. Mr. Mahoney served in the Army in the late 1950s and later was employed as the Assistant Treasurer-Collector for the City of Boston, retiring in 1994. He was a member of the Secular Franciscans and a member of the Massachusetts Collector - Treasurers Association. He enjoyed spending time with his family and watercolor painting. He is survived by his wife, Mary T. (Fonte) Mahoney, 3 sons, Paul F. Mahoney of Pembroke, James J. Mahoney of Walpole and Andrew G. Mahoney of Abington, 2 daughters, Elizabeth Anne Mahoney of Natick and Mary C. Salamone of Leominster, 2 sisters, Helen Pickering of Milton and Mary Hegerich of VA . Also survived by 5 grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Veronica Mahoney and James Mahoney. Funeral Mass on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Church, 392 Hanover St., Rte 139 in Hanover. Interment in Hanover Center Cemetery.
