Clement Micarelli Obituary

MARSHFIELD South Shore Art Community Loses Valued Talent and Mentor Clement Micarelli. When Clement Micarelli passed away on August 28 at age 79, a canvas sat at the ready in his studio, prepped for a new portrait commission. It was a testament to a respected artist who remained in demand for his masterful technique and ability to reveal the individuality and spirit of his subjects. Known as Mic to his family and friends, he was a beloved mentor to scores of artists over the years. He taught privately and as a faculty member of the Rhode Island School of Design. His connection with RISD began in 1941 when, at the age of 12, he attended his first figure drawing course. After serving in the Army during the Korean War, Mic went on to study at Pratt Institute in New York City where he lived with his wife and childhood sweetheart Mary Amalfitano. As he and Mary raised their three children, Joe, Domenic and Paula, Mic built a successful career as a fashion illustrator, while never abandoning his work and identity as a painter and fine artist. After moving the family to Massachusetts in 1971, Mic eventually settled in Marshfield where he became a valued member of the vibrant South Shore art community. He was also the center of a loving clan that grew to include five grandchildren Ray, Christopher, Tori, Noelle and Julianne whom he adored and, naturally, painted often. Some of Mics portraits, illustrations and landscapes can be seen at www.cmicarelli.com. To honor Mic, donations can be made to the Norwell VNA www.nvna.org, which was so supportive during his battle with lung cancer, or the American Cancer Society. A private memorial will be held for family and friends.

There will never be a time we look at any art without remembering the man who instilled the vision to see it. He will be remembered always, missed eternally.

I WILL MISS MIC. I HAVE ALWAYS ENJOYED MEETING WITH HIM AT TAX TIME. A VERY TALENTED MAN WHO DIDN'T RECEIVE THE RECOGNITION HE DESERVED. HE WAS A GREAT PERSON AND ARTIST.

I'm very sorry to learn of Mic's death. I studied with him for years, to my great profit. He was a fine artist, a great story teller, and a real character--a wonderful human being.

To the Micarelli Family,
I was sorry to hear about Mic's passing. My father, Joe Parrish, and I had studied under Mic in Cohasset. My family is blessed with a beautiful portrait Mic did of our mother that will be cherished forever. God Bless.

To Mary and the Family.
Somehow it doesn't seem that long ago when Mic and I had studio space in the same building on Boylston Street and became friends. Mic was more than great visual images. He was a personality... a musician, a wonderful teller of jokes and a better pool player than me. If you knew him, you got to know the family. My pal, I'll miss him.

Dear Micarelli Family,
I am so sorry to learn of Clemente's passing. We go back a long way. He and my husband, Pat, spent a lot of time together painting and listening to music. They are together again picking up where they left off. I send my love and condolences. Marie Alosa
