David Wetmore Obituary

HANOVER David L. Wetmore, 65, of Hanover, formerly of Marshfield died very suddenly at his home on August 31, 2008. He was born in Memphis, Tennessee son of Harriet (Foye) Wetmore of Hanover and the late Leslie L. Wetmore. He was raised and educated in Hanover graduating from Hanover High school in 1960. David enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a paratrooper with the 101st Airborne at Ft. Benning Georgia. Mr. Wetmore had been a resident of Marshfield for several years before returning to Hanover 18 years ago. For the past 40 years has been a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service in Marshfield. He was affectionately referred to as The Mayor of Marshfield by his wide circle of friends. An avid gardener, he loved to fish and played every Tuesday at the Pembroke Community Center in organized and pick-up basketball games. In 1980 David was included in the Guiness Book of World Records for his participation in the longest continuous softball game ever played at that time, which was a fundraiser for the March of Dimes and The Jimmy Fund. In addition to his mother he is survived by his children, Lawrence D. Wetmore of Kissimmee, FL. and Lori Gupton of Bradenton, FL. His siblings, Linda L. Halpern of Berkeley, CA and Donald L. Wetmore of Marina Del Ray, CA. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Andrew, Sabrina, Christopher and Sean Wetmore and Samantha Gupton and his close friend Bruce Davenport of Weymouth. A funeral will be held in the Magoun-Biggins Funeral Home 135 Union St. ROCKLAND on Friday, September 5th at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Donald Remick officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Hanover Center Cemetery. Calling hours will be on Thursday, September 4th from 4-8 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the Susan G. Lori and Larry what can I say, I'm so very sorry for your loss. You know what a wonderful man he was , he meant the world to us. Helen will miss him immensley, somehow life just isn't fair. my prayers are with all of you.
