Marlene Nelson Obituary

MELROSE Described by friends as, "a funny and generous lady", passed away in September 18, 2006. Diagnosed with lung cancer on August of 2006, she was given 3 to 6 months to live. Her faith and will to fight kept her alive for 2 1/2 years. Marlene was 67. Marlene was a woman of many talents. She was an excellent surgical nurse, an exceptional potter and a skilled photographer. Marlene had a profound love and concern for the marginalized of the world. She traveled to South Africa to teach unemployed people to make pottery. She donated the money to build a church in a rural area of South Africa. Words cannot convey the unique person she was. She gave and received much love from many people. Marlene was the daughter of the late Reverend Ralph C. Nelson and the late Faye (Madson) Nelson. She is survived by her brother Dr. Clement A. Nelson and his wife Ellen of Marshfield and Chatham, NH. Also by 3 nephews, 4 grandnephews and 1 grandniece. A Service will be held at the Parish of the Messiah, 1900 Commonwealth Ave., Auburndale on Tuesday, September 23 at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectully invited to attend. Contributions can be made to Parish of the Messiah, 1900 Commonwealth Ave., Auburndale, MA 02466-2416, for the African project, dear to her heart, or to Hallmark Health Hospice, 100 Hospital Rd., Malden, MA 02148. So sorry to hear of your sister's passing, but she loved the Lord and is now rejoicing in Heaven with your mother, Clem.

I grew up with Marlene at Central Baptist church in Quincy Mass. where her dad was Pastor. I have fond memories of Marlene as a fun loving person. I know she is going to be missed by all who knew and loved her.
