Charles Shannon Obituary

Charles Shannon ROCKLAND Charles J. "Charlie" Shannon, of Rockland, September 27, at the Braemore Nursing Home in Brockton after a brief illness, age 85. He was born and brought up in Abington and had lived in Rockland for the past 58 years. He worked as a Highway Maintenance Supervisor for the Commonwealth of Mass for over 35 years retiring in 1985. He worked 36 hours straight during the Blizzard of 78. He also served in the U.S. Army during WWII. And as a young man worked in the Civil Conservation Core in Vermont. Charlie enjoyed his family and friends, gardening, woodworking and traveling. He was the beloved husband of the late Margaret (Dumanian). Beloved father of Lucia and her husband Hugh Crane of Brockton and Karen and her husband Elliot Brown of Sutton. Beloved grandfather of Melissa and her husband Matthew Evans of Whitensville, Roxanne Crane of New Haven, CT and Daniel Crane of Brockton and great-grandfather of Zoe. Brother of the late Mary Shannon, Frances Minnehan, Winifred Johnson, Thomas Shannon, Robert Shannon, Ann Stone, James Shannon and John Shannon. Funeral from the Quealy and Son Funeral Home, 116 Adams Street, Abington on Thursday, October 2 at 8 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in Holy Family Church in Rockland at 9 a.m. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Interment St. Patrick's Cemetery, Rockland. Dear Lucia and Karen,
I wish I could be there to give you a hug and tell you in person how sorry I am that your dear Dad will no longer be there with you. He was a wonderful man and we will all miss him.

Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served in the U.S. Army during WW II and for being a member of the Greatest Generation. And to your family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.
