Hi Kathy,
I was deeply saddened to hear what happened. While I had not seen Mac for many years I would often look back and think of him as one of my best friends back at SHS. I hope you and your family can overcome the loss. Take care.

Kathy, Eric, Greg, Karryn, and Lauren,
It seems like only yesterday we were neighbors and I was coming over and babysitting or being a mother's helper. Bob was such a wonderful man and I am truly saddened by his passing. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
Love,

Like many guys in town I got to know Bob through playing golf and running into him at the gym or around the kid related sports events.
To me Bob was the quintessential "guys guy" and I always enjoyed talking to him when we got together.
Bob was a gift to the community and an insperation for many to go beyond their comfort zone and to want to good for others. If there is one legacy that we could all cherish and that is knowing our good deeds pass on to those who we love. I am certain Bob's family has learned by his actions and has grown through his kindness and insperation to those around him.
Please accept my condolences and know that you are all in our thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,
MARVIN BLAKESLY

Dear Kathleen,
Bob hired me 19 years ago when I was at WhiteHall. We worked together for over 5 years and both of you attended our wedding. I later moved out of the area and eventually left the company and lost touch. I want to let you know that I learned a great deal from Bob and think about him often. We would think of the MacDonald family twice a year as we would make our way back to New England on our annual trips and we would pass what became known as the "MacDonald" Old Saybrook exit. I have fond memories of Bob. He was a mentor and a great person. You and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.
Sincerely,
John and Sharon Durkin

Dear Eric, Kerryn, Craig, Lauren,
Our family is so saddened by your loss. I wish there were a magic word I could say to make it all better for you.
I'm sure you'll be looking out for each other; that's what's so wonderful about being part of a big family. Try and remember to take care of yourself, too. Of course you'll be worried about your mother -the best way you kids can take care of your mother is by taking care of yourself.
Your father will be remembered as a special man who made a difference in so many lives. The Palmieri's know that first hand. What your father did for Jimmy- it may seem like a small gesture but it meant the world to us. We needed an angel, and your dad came knocking at our door.
He spoke of you all often; he loved you so much. When you heard him talk about his kids, it was obvious you were everything to him.
We lost an amazing person; but we're so grateful for the legacy he's left -all of you, his beautiful children. You're his gift to the world.
I'm holding you in my heart,
Paula Palmieri

Kathy and Family:
Please remember that the Palmieri's, especially Paula and I will always be here for you and your family. It always struck me how similar Bob and my life was, being the father of such a wonderful family and having such a strong wife to manage things and support us, as I know you did. I will never forget
Bob showing up at my kitchen door one Sunday about 7 years ago because he had heard that I lost my job. He sat with me for an hour as a "cheerleader" and wanted to be sure that I was "OK" and if I ever needed to talk about my feelings, he would be ready to listen, anytime anyplace. His influence encouraged me to stay positive, get over the anger and denial, not look back and move on. I have him to always thank for this. Bob's legacy is in the hearts and minds of his beautiful wife and children and I know that he feels peace now in what he contributed to your lives.
Respectfully,
Cheryl Eastman

To the MacDonald family,
I will never forget the loving memories we had growing up with the times we played street hockey, skated at the pond, played endless baseball games together at the top of our street, and seeing each other grow up and into adults. I'll never foget the time Wes Hayes chased Robert when we young on Halloween night in his orange rain suit and Robert ran into my mother's house. We laughed so hard until we cried!.
I thank God for the experiences we had with each other as true brothers in Christ. For surely we loved one another and did his will which is to love without conditions attached.
I will truly miss you Robert as a dear friend/brother and my hope is in God that we meet again in eternal bliss for us all... in heaven... forever more. At peace eternally. May God rest your soul.
Love Michael, Elizabeth, and Sean Driscoll

To Mac's family and friends,
I've got to pass on this message from a friend...
About 2 years ago, Mac and I were playing Fenwick and standing on the 4th tee. It was one of those rare rounds in which it was just the 2 of us...rare because Mac always attracted a crowd. It was a beautiful evening, and unless your familiar with Fenwick, the 4th tee provides a great view of a sunset, the South Cove, the CT River Estuary. Mac said (and I distinctly remember this because I think I was addressing my ball at the time)..."If anything ever gets you down, just look around and look at where we live".
I think of that every time I play Fenwick and I'm on the 4th tee...and I usually need immediate consolation after I put my drive in the South Cove.
Mac and I both came from elsewhere, him from Massachusetts and me from Pennsylvania (which Mac would tease me about, questioning my family lineage because I was raised so close to Appalachia), but we both loved this town. This community is never, never just a place of beautiful scenery...it's so much deeper than that...it's the people, and when I think about those that I've known in this town who have always been there for community outreach, helping somebody out, recognizing that something needs to be fixed or righted and getting started on it...I think of Mac first. Like you all, I'm going to miss him very, very much. My commitment to him is to do what he suggested and draw my strength, when needed, from those around me in this town. It's just 1 of the many little things that Mac's done that has left an impression on me, and I felt I needed to pass it on.
